CONGRESSMAN DELGADO ENDORSES KATHLEEN PROPER FOR CLAVERACK TOWN SUPERVISOR
Kathleen Proper is the leader who will move Claverack forward.
Congressman Antonio Delgado (D-NY19) announced his endorsement of Kathleen Proper for Claverack Town Supervisor on Friday. Town Supervisors also sit on the Columbia County Board of Supervisors.
In his support of Proper, Delgado stated, “I’m happy to endorse Kathleen Proper for Claverack Town Supervisor. As a lifelong Columbia County resident and Human Resources professional, she has the skills and experience to create a Claverack that works for all residents.” Proper is honored and humbled to receive Delgado’s endorsement. She stated, “I was first inspired to get into politics and activism after seeing then-candidate Antonio Delgado speak at an event in 2018. I can’t put into words how much it means to me to be endorsed by someone I admire as much as Congressman Delgado.” Claverack, like other towns in Columbia County, has its challenges. When elected, Proper will use her unique skills and background to tackle housing affordability and accessibility, lack of good paying jobs, smart economic development, broadband access and affordability, and the impact of climate change. Proper has been busy speaking with residents, sharing her plans for Claverack’s future, and is excited to get to work.
Sam Hodge, Chair of the Columbia County Democratic Committee and Claverack resident, also endorsed Proper, stating, “Kathleen will be an incredible Supervisor for Claverack. She has the vision and skills to move Claverack and our County forward. With her victory, Democrats will have a majority on the Board of Supervisors and be able to enact meaningful change. She’s the leader that can make Claverack and Columbia County work.” As a Human Resources professional, Proper has worked with people of all backgrounds, at companies large and small, and has a proven track record of getting things done. Proper will focus on small businesses and housing for essential workers. She will utilize incentives to bring the right businesses to Claverack, ensuring that residents have a clear and easy path to start a small business. Proper, who cares deeply about preserving the rural character and green spaces of Claverack, is a member of Claverack’s Climate Smart Communities (CSC) Committee. As Supervisor, she will develop climate smart policies to reduce utility bills and bring energy-efficient solutions to Claverack, including supporting the CSC Committee’s recommendation for building a new sustainable, net zero town hall.
Stephanie Sussman, Claverack Democratic Town Chair, noted, “Kathleen knows the issues and the people of Claverack and Columbia County. She works hard and does her homework. She will bring her ability to communicate, collaborate, and negotiate the best outcomes to meet the needs of Claverack and Columbia County to move us forward.” In addition, Proper believes broadband should be treated like the utility it is and will work to ensure Claverack residents have the reliable and affordable coverage they need to work, learn, and receive medical care. There have been many missed opportunities for state and federal funding regarding broadband, as well as infrastructure, education, and senior and youth services, among others. Proper will seek out available grants and will coordinate with state and federal representatives to receive funding opportunities.
Proper also believes in and will lead an open and transparent board, giving residents the greatest opportunity to stay informed through access and participation in their town government. She will develop and support resident-led committees to assist the town government. Proper will work with and for the people of Claverack and Columbia County.
