ASSEMBLYMEMBER DIDI BARRETT WINS THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY IN AD 106!

By a wide margin, voters cast their vote for Assemblymember Didi Barrett over challenger Claire Cousin in last Tuesday’s Primary Election. Didi Barrett received over 60% of the vote in Columbia County and won the District by 14 points (57-42). Representing our district since 2012, which currently includes most of Columbia County and most of Dutchess County, Didi had just over 57 percent of the vote by the time her challenger, Claire Cousin conceded the race that evening. Columbia County continues to be a leader in the state in voter turnout, with 26% of Democrats voting in this Primary.  Our vote totals rivaled Dutchess County, despite making up only 35% of AD 106. The town of Claverack had excellent voter turnout thanks to some of our very special volunteers’ GOTV effort by Elise Bon Rudin, the most dedicated dialer in our phone banking team, and postcard writing coordinator Pat Fecher, who led more than 20 volunteers, writing over 1000 postcards for Didi Barrett’s campaign.

Assemblymember Barrett said “It has been my greatest honor to represent the beautiful 106th Assembly District for the last twelve years, and I am so grateful to the many constituents, friends and supporters who helped us throughout this long primary campaign.  Last night’s resounding victory is a testament to what we all know at heart, that negativity and lies aren’t what people are looking for – results are!

“As we look to November and the very critical issues at stake, it’s time to work together to protect our planet; ensure safe housing and food security for all our communities; codify our human and reproductive rights; and create career pathways in the new green economy by ensuring child care and transportation for those who need it. I thank the voters of Columbia and Dutchess counties for their support, and look forward to getting back to work for the Hudson Valley!”
