Poll Watchers (sometimes called Poll Observers) serve as our eyes and ears at poll sites, ensuring proper voting procedures are followed. Watchers are trained to spot, report, and resolve voting issues in real-time and are always supported by a dedicated team of lawyers and experienced voter protectors. Poll Watchers are not Poll Workers.
Poll Watchers ensure that poll sites are operational and well-resourced and that voting is unfolding smoothly. This means checking for proper signage, verifying accessibility, and observing poll workers follow correct procedures!
To be a Poll Watcher, you must be a qualified voter in Columbia County, must not be a candidate on the ballot, and must be certified in writing after attending required training. New this year: attorneys licensed to practice in New York State may serve as a Poll Watcher at any polling place in the state.
