To the Editor:
In the June 25th Democratic Primary for AD 106, registered Democrats will cast their vote for the candidate they want to appear on the November General Election ballot. I believe that candidate should be current Assemblymember Didi Barrett.
Assemblymember Barrett, now in her 6th term, is the first Democrat to represent this area in the Assembly. During her tenure as a public servant, at Didi’s Diner Stop events, she listens to constituents’ questions and concerns and acts, introducing or co-sponsoring legislation that has often been groundbreaking.
In 2016, in response to the crisis level of Lyme Disease in Columbia and Dutchess counties, Didi Barrett passed legislation to provide community education, outreach, research funding and expanding care and treatment for tick-borne illnesses that has plagued so many residents.
In 2019, Didi worked with farmers and environmental advocates to pass first-in-the-nation legislation to promote regenerative agriculture, creating a pilot program to encourage sustainable farming practices across the Hudson Valley. These practices increase soil health and resilience, and help Hudson Valley farmers thrive.
As Chair of the Veterans Committee, Didi Barrett established the first Department of Veterans Affairs in NY State where veterans get assistance with filing claims, and expanded programs for veterans and their families.
Didi continues to deliver on the environment, education, housing affordability, protecting families from gun violence, and standing up for reproductive rights and healthcare. She is an experienced advocate and leader and can win the General Election as part of a strong slate of candidates on the November ballot.
Democrats in AD 106 can vote in-person at their local poll site on Primary Election Day June 25, in- person during Early Voting June 15-23, or by applying for an early mail-in ballot or absentee ballot from their County Board of Elections.
At a time when our Democracy is under threat, your vote for Didi Barrett’s proven leadership will carry our state and country forward.
